Everyone is doing a mantis thread. I wanted to join in.
Well, we had too many mantis' in too many tanks. Consolidation was our new word when me moved a couple of years back. We decided to put our two favourite mantis in a split 40g tank.

If I had my time back I would have gotten the breeders 40 instead of the standard to give them more horizontal space.
You can see the peacock waiting patiently on the fireplace mantle while we worked on his new home.

To accommodate both mantis', we had to get a tank custom made to divide the two halves.
Easy enough....

those are both beautiful....their colors are so vibrant.
I have a spare 55 downstairs now, HMMMMMMMM that could become a mantis tank...but that is a lot of "wasted" space, isn't it? I could turn my 30QT into the mantis tank and turn the 55 into the QT...OR...I could do some other type of aggressive tank with the 55 and leave the 30 alone??????
too much to think about with snow falling at a rate of about 2 inches per hour!!!!!!

Man I wish I had a camera like yours. Your pics put just about everyone to shame, Cran. lol Following along, you're the one who got me really interested in mantis' and now I have one too. =)
Oh, and what are their names! >> They all need names.

I give names, but they are generally very basic and mostly to appease those who ask. For example:
Mandarin= Mandy
Yellow Tang=Yellow
Catalina Goby=Kat

If I have 2 of a species
Frick and frack
Flotsome and Jetsome

I have Bonnie and Clyde (clownfish)
Dolche (damsel)
Roscoe (Royal Gramma)
Javier (Pep shrimp)
Hernando (cleaner shrimp)
And McLovin' (Mantis) lol

Over a decade ago there was this young hobbyist who took a lot of time to name her fish. Bought a very in depth Oceans and Reefs Map book of the world, would research where a particular fish came from, and name it an Uber cool Atoll/Reef/etc etc name from that area. Then her tank got ich. All those with names died. All the nameless survived. She never named another fish again.

geesh, Henry, i've played and sung that tune WAY more times than i can count, but it's a great tune.
there is indeed an old aquarist's superstition that says "don't name anything you want to keep around", and i'm not really superstitious, but oddly enuff, i've seen it borne out on more than one occasion.
nevertheless, as Renee mentioned, we don't name our aquarium livestock. i guess we just don't do "cutesy"...%%

VERY nice! house & tank , I am at a stand still trying to find a mantis
guess I am just too cheap to pay 35.00 to ship a 29.00 mantis
..... Kinda embarrassed to say....I name all my fish
and I will probably call the mantis something simple and stupid like....KILLER. Sorry , cant help myself

My wife and I named our fish yesterday...just goofy names. If anyone saw Charles Barkley's SNL bits with McGruber...we named our firefish (also called dartfish...hence the D names) Darrell (Dare-ul) and Darrell (Dar-ell).

I'm hanging in. We got him back from the crematory tonight and I know it sounds odd... but I feel him here. I could feel him "not here" for the past week.
