replacing a all glass aquarium frame?

I was thinking of getting a 40Gal breeder tank and using that as a QT tank for my SW fish, instead of the 20. The only thing is the tank I found for $35 was a "Critter Cage" basically a all glass tank with the reptile mesh screen sliding top.
Can I remove the plactic framing on the top and replace it with a aquarium styled frame? Where could I get the plastic framing and how expensive would it be?

I don't know if the silicone seams or glass thickness would be different. I've got a sticker on a 20gal long cage that says "don't fill with water."

Might want to contact them.

The plastic frame is not something you can purchase. I cracked the plastic frame on my 125 and contacted several manufacturers. The answer I got from all of them was the same. It is considered a "proprietary" item and not sold separately.

thanks, too bad. guess I'll just need to wait for another tank, with the right lip.. or just build my own glass tank. Thinkin of building a 36L x 24W x 18T. That would be a great sized QT tank wide enough to treat bigger fish, but shallow enough to not use a ton of meds. Just a thought.. would be fairly expensive though to custom build. (Have to use .5 glass and make a rimless tank.

I found two places in my area that can get them. Just call some smaller fish stores or a feed store.

As other's have said, you can replace the trim on tanks. I have a 125 and tried to replace the trim on mine from a center cross brace to one with two cross braces and it didn't fit b/c they are from different manufacturers. I ended up having to order the center braced trim.

Any luck? I'm looking to replace the frame on my 55 (center brace broke), so I'm curious as to how you're making out.

I should hope that after 5 years the OP figured something out. I didn't realize this was as old as it is until after I posted yesterday.
