the only reason i clean it is it gets dirty and clogs the filter to where it dosent filter through, the water flows back over the top of the sock.

cool man i'd appreciate it. the sump i'm using right now is a pre-fab, a cpr, and it's a terrible design. the supply from the overflow dumps right into the first chamber where my skimmer is and there's nowhere to place filter floss so the unfiltered water dumps right into the sump.
i also wanted to ask what size euroreef you're running on your 75, as i'm slowly in the process of setting up a 75 myself. i'm running a berlin turbo classic on my 55, but eventually i'd like to get a euroreef.

my euro reef is the ES5-2 Series, i payed $265.00 for it and it's the greatest skimmer i bought. the base is 5"wide by 20" high.

A filter sock is not meant for biofiltration. It's for mechanical filtration; thus the frequent cleanings because it gets clogged.

i'm really curious what those crystals are called....

Here is the name of th crystals...Sodium dio salfate. they are little clear crystals

I too use a similar type sock on my sps system and they are a simple device that pulls out many organics before having a chance to break down, lightening the load on my skimmer (of course a Euroreef too) and system in general. You do need to clean them often as the matter it picks up will eventually start to break down. The nice thing is that when they clog the water just goes over the top and does not harm anything.
I rotate mine out about once every three days. I rinse the dirty one off with a high pressure garden hose which removes most of the large particles, and then soak it in a one part bleach to four parts water solution for 24 hours. I then rinse out the bucket a couple of time and let it sit for a few hours, with the final wash soaking in water with a few drops of dechlorinator to neutralize the leftover chlorine if any is left behind...
On a side note the Euroreef skimmers are great...

yeah i've got mine on a 60 gal w/ 1 inch pvc coming from the overlfow into a 20gal sump... I can't seem to figure out what to do though... right now I just kinda have it sitting under the return from the overflow.. but the thing is friggin huge, doesn't look right.
Do you have a pic of how yours is setup in the tank?
Cheers!

what was the size of the top of the sock, mine is about 4" in dia and 11" deep, you may have the bigger one, from looking at the side of my sump, the sock has it"s own chamber to go in. the 2-1" lines run down to the top of the sump and go right to the top of the sock, filter through into the skimmer area and back to the return pump, this way the water is filtered through the sock before it reaches the skimmer , do you have a pic of ur sump?.... here is 1 of mine

I see.. my sump area isn't large enough.. i need to move some stuff around, and maybe order a smaller sock because this thing is just huge 7x16
