reverse flow power heads?

could someone tell me how to use the reverse flow option on a power head. i have a 402 aqua clear power head for a 30 gallon QT with a undergravel filter How long to use the reverse flow part is it used all the time or for a little bit just to get deitrus from out of the substrat. Any info on this would be a huge help. Thanks in advance for your care and help.

Reverse flow is an option you should decide on when you set up the UG filter. Normally. you would attach a sponge or some other filter to the intake of the powerheads. Some prefer reverse flow because it lets you pre-filter the water before it gets to the gravel. It also keeps food suspended for the fish (or inverts) to eat. It can work really well with sand.
If you're not using them in reverse, you should NOT try reversing them to help clean the UG filter! Get a gravel siphon for that.
