I’m looking for people who have experience using the product Purple Up by CaribSea to post reviews of the product, as well as suggestions for alternative products. How well did it work for you, what kinds of improvements did you see it make, did it have any adverse affects and would you recommend it to people who want to improve their coralline algae growth? Thanks!

Worked great for me. I have nice purple and pink coralline growing everywhere. It didnt raise my calcium through the roof. I use it daily.

I won't use it ever again. I got a bad bottle and not only did it NOT make my coralline algae grow, but it made nuisance algae grow like mad because it raised my phosphates through the roof!! Never again...

hmm maybe i should test my phosphate on my purple up. I had no sucess with it at all. It sky rocketed my calcium. Lots of algae problem afterwards now you mention it. I'm not conviced it works.

After using it, I noticed quite a bit of coralline growing. I'm happy with it. But like Evanish said, if you maintain CA, it'll be the same.

Directions do not say 2 times per day. It says add 1 capful per 50 gallons no more than once daily. I would not add more than that per day. That could be a problem.

We used Purple Up once, and did notice more coraline algae. Dripped w/ Kalkwasser and it had the same effect.

Stablalize your temperature, maintain elevated calcium levels and proper dKH levels and you'll be scraping the stuff off every weekend.

Purple up did nothing for my tank except cause a hair algae problem. I dripped kalk and had coralline in no time.

IMO it's one of those products for impatient people. I bought a bottle I admit. Was running two tanks. Used in one and not the other. If calcium was maintained at around 440 to 460 and dKH was kep in 11 to 12 range Coraline grows everywhere with or without the product. It's that simple. Frequent water changes, good lighting, stable parameters, wait 90 days and then start scraping off where not wanted.

I understand what you’re saying. I don’t have any corals in this tank yet though, and i figure Purple Up will deliver the broad range of elements I need without having to go buy them individually. Is this assumption correct? any one else have any ideas?
