Ricordea Fragging Question...

I have a bunch of ricordea mushrooms growing on one rock with a bunch of mouths on each mushroom. I would like to frag these and I am just wondering what the best method would be?
Thanks,
Roland

I would like to place them on reef plugs. Do I just slice them on the bottom and then slice them between the mouths?
Thanks

I guess I'll try that next time. I sliced 3 off of my main rock tonight with each one having at least one mouth. I'm having problems getting them to stay on the plugs even with glue. Oh well, I guess it will get easier each time I try it. Thanks for the advice!

its really hard to get them to stay on due to the slime they excrete when you touch them i use a tiny clay pot from craft stores fill them with crushed coral and put netting around them like wedding vails panty hose what ever you wanna use with small holes and just place the frags in there and let them attach to a tiny piece of crushed coral then glue the coral to a frag and it works great i can show you pics if you like

This is how i get them to stick to the crushed coral to glue them i started with the larger one but to much water flow was pushing my shrooms to the edge so i went with these tiny clay pots they are about .50 each and easily placed in and out of your tank sorry my lights arent on yet it will be and hour or so :

Thanks for posting the pics. I actually tried something a little different but the same idea.

Hopefully this works out.

a glueing does not work well with soft corals very often best bet is the mesh method. Once they stick to just a piece or rock rubble you can glue that to any thing you want.

I'm hoping that they just attach to the frag plugs.
they will. super glue will work on softies as long as you keep them on the rock. flow will break them off, but they will grow onto their rock. IMO, if you wanted to go for a real frag you should have minced it and sprinkled it into a dixie cup. get asbout 50 rics.

would it be ok to just take a ric and slice it across the mouth?
that works too. again, you dont need the mouth on the frag. its proven that when you do so they heal and grow faster, but it isnt neccessaary.

If you just slice it across the mouth won't you just have 2 rics together? What if you want to separate them
