Do ricordias prefer to live on the sand or the rocks?

I have my Rics on some rocks at various levels in the tank.The ones that are on the rocks that are at the bottom of the tank move to where they are half on the rocks and half on the sand. So I guess you can put them where ever you think they look good and they will be happy.Also would depend on your lighting. HTH

I would put them on the rocks. If you have a small frag, it will eventually need room to grow and spread. PLus florida rics unlike other mushrooms like more lighting anyways so having them up higher is much better.
