i have mine in a 12 gal nano w/ 54w pc and they seem to be doing great. all are horizontal except one and both ways seem to be fine. i think it depends on what you like. maybe being vertical will make them move and split more
the person to ask would be flricordia, he seems to alway have alot of rics.

They're like most other mushrooms and will thrive in just about any decent lighting condition. They split almost as much based on flow as on lighting, so if you want it to split/reproduce more frequently, place it in a moderate flow spot.

Is 17" away from 10,000k bulbs to ofar for a ricordia....I have had one now for 2 weeks, and it hasn't done anything. I have another one in a diff. tank that is about 6" from light and it just seems better....Just wondering if I need to move it up...
 
meowzer, i hope someone answers your question. i have been watching your thread on this cuz i want to know this too.

It should be fine there IME.
i am waiting for mine to split, they are getting huge and developing more mouths.
