Right temp for reef

When I have mine set to 78 it only goes to 80 durring the 8hours my lights are on.
When I have mine set to 80, it jumps to 85 when the lights are on. I cant figure out why one is a 2 degree diff, and the other is a 5 degree diff, so i keep mine at 78-80. When I can afford a chiller, Ill keep mine at 82.
Corals do best in warmer water than fish. 80-82 is generally accepted as best. But don't go past 84.

mine punctuate just like on the wild.during winter 75-78 and summer 81-83.5 with no issues. i do not own a heater so on winter i let the metal halide do all the heating and with the new apex i can control the fan too, to keep the temp between 76- 78 easily.in case the temp go down i will just turn on my metal halide through the internet
but it sucks right now with my chiller running 2-3 hours a day.
ps i do not let my temp punctuate more than 3.5 degrees a day

only problem with higher temperatures is lower oxygen levels...
if you are going to take your tank above 80 make sure you have enough water movement (and not too many fish) that your o2 levels will remain high enough
