Rio 1400 - replace?

I keep reading bad posts about Rio's going bad...
I have a Rio 1400 as my sump return to my 30g, do you think I should replace it? I would hate for my pump to break and release toxins. It's been running for about 2 months or so. Would regular maintenence and checking the pump help me to know if I need to replace it? I have never actually "maintained" a pump, sortof let it go on its own. What exactly shoudl I make sure and how often?
Thanks!

I would replace it. Rio pumps have been known to go out without warning no matter what maintenance you do to it.
For routine maintenance of a pump, I usually remove mine monthly and clean the impeller & chamber along with the intake and outflow tracts. Takes about 5 minutes.

I had a Rio that lasted only a week, I replaced it with a Mag 7 that I've had for 3+ years with no problems (knock on wood) I am a firm beliver that Rio=disaster. I use a Mag for my return pump and that is what I would recommend.

OK.
It's right under the list below RO/DI unit and good skimmer.
How much does the mag equivalent to a Rio 1400 run?
