Impeller is not turning and the pump is not humming. Is there any type of truble shooting I can do to fix this? Its less than a year old.
Thanks

Welcome to the world of RIO, their powerheadsa are garbage. Replace it with a maxi-jet or equivalent.

Mine caused the water to shock me when I stuck my hands in the tank. I've also heard that they have destroyed whole tanks when they have failed. I agree that Maxi-jet and MAG pumps work great.

Smack it a couple of times to see if it will start working. Then promptly replace it with a mag drive.
Good luck

Be glad that's all that happended...The Rio 2100 is the worse one of the bunch....Either give the pump to your worst enemy or throw it away.

Another vote against RIOs!
My LFS stocks RIOs. I have had 2 die in less then 4 months. I'm not going to get RIOs anymore. One died before with an electrical short and just yesterday the one I use to aerate my salt mixing container failed (which is not convenient when I am doing hypo and doing frequent water changes:mad: ).
Thanks fishtanker and banshee for suggestions on alternatives.

heh, in personal experiances i've had the opposite happen to me, my magdrive 7 failed on me and i had a rio just layin around so i hooked that up and it ran till i broke down my tank, but when i was working in the LFS we returned more rio's than dead fish

Thanks,

Its not about not liking them its about them wiping out peoples tank. I was lucky. Mine melted and polluted my fully stocked 55 gal reef right about the time I was getting ready to move to a bigger tank. I had a 150 cycled and half full of live rock. If you do some research you'll find that these pumps have crashed 100's of tanks.

WAIT, DON'T THROW IT AWAY!!!!!!!. I'm not one of your enemies, I don't think, but I'll take it. It'll certainly help keep the stock tanks from freezing over this winter.
