hey guys...i have a rio 1700 pump that runs my skimmer. the other day after dumping the collection cup the pump started making a buzzing sound. i took it off and rinsed it out and tightned the housing and when i put it back on it was louder than before. anyone had this problem before or know how to remedy this??
thanks Brian

How old is the pump? The design of the impeller is the problem with them. Although, a rio is the best pump for muy excalibur skimmer, I have to change out the buzzing impeller every 6-8 months. Also make sure the ruber boot cap is still on both ends of the ceramic post on the impeller. If its missing the pump will rattle and buzz. I had one go down the drain once.

hey rick
thanks for the reply. i checked the boot caps and they are both snug, so i'll try replacing the impeller. the pump itself is probably only about 4 maybe 5 months old. you know i have another rio 1700 that started doing the same thing and it was only about 1 month old. anyway i'll replace the impeller and see if that helps. it's just strange to me. one minute quite and the next it sounds like a chainsaw.
thanks Brian

Most people hate rios...they are the only pump my skimmer works correctly with. Thinking about a new skimmer if this happens again soon.
