Dang...
After all these years as my "Showcase" Fish...My Lion bit the big one...literally...
A 15" fish...(OK "official" post mortum measurement... nose to tail 14 1/4") He had what I thought to be adaquate room in my 210 FOWLR Aggressive.. But a shrimp sliding down the tank wall proved too tempting and he slammed his nose into the glass..
Post mortum shows dislocated jawbone which caused a lack of ability to eat...

Tank parameters were tested when he showed signs of distress...all checked out and so the cause was a puzzle...all other fish doing fine and he just lost interest in swimming and eating...
Gonna miss him...For sure...But his passing does open the door to a number of aggressive fish I bypassed eariler because of his flowing fins...

Yeah, it kinda sucks..no...it doesn't "kinda" suck...it does suck...

Had that fish about 3 1/2 years (got him when he was like 4" long) and was hopein to prove/disprove the the theory that Puffers and Triggers "could" live with Lions given comfortable surroundings and enough room...Made it 2 1/2 years with no aggression before my head test subject checked out...
Also have a 15" Panther Grouper in there (he was bigger than the Lion so estimate should be accurate) a Blue and a Yellow tang and a Bad

[hr]
Maroon Clown all peacefully coexisting.
As I look back...I did notice the last time or two I fed him (after the shrimp incident) that instead of taking his usual 4 or 5 "bites" on food offered...that he would swim up to the morsal and with the first "bite" react as if he had an electric shock and go into hiding..
I see that now as pain from the torn ligiments keeping him from trying a second bite... and eventually even trying the first..
