the egg we have of banded bamboo cat shark prematurely released from the egg; the yolk was still about grape sized; we have had the egg in the tank for about a couple of months; the embryo hadn't even had developed eyes or color yet when we got it; at some point the egg deteriated more & more until the shark was able to fit mostly through itself except for the yolk being hung;
we realeased the yolk sac from the egg & provided protected area in the tank for the shark; about a week later it got out into the main area of the tank & seems the yolk sac has been collapsed now;
the shark seems fine is well developed about 6 or so inches now from the 4-5 it was when it released itself; we have witnessed it releasing waste at least once in this time & have noticed itto take substrate into it's mouth & spit it out again...
it becomes excited when food is placed into the tank...should we attempt to feed it now or wait few more days; the collapsed yolk sac is still attached & well formed...

Baron what kind of arowana do you have and how large. I just purchased a 200 gallon and haven't decided what to put in it yet but something large would be great. I have seen them over 3 feet long. Thanks for any info.

The yolk sac is a not a concern at all. It is actually the food of the shark in the first few weeks of life after emerging from the egg. In nature the baby sharks are very susceptible to predators, they are pretty much on their own from day-1. Their yolk sac will give them nourishment during the time they cannot hunt for food. The sac does not fall off, it is absorbed. HTH

I had a foot long Ausy Arowana let me tell you is that one mean bass ass fish! <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" /> When it was 10" long it killed a 15" silver Arowana. I had him for little over 17 months very cool fish but eta about $400 bucks of live stock all other fish, and that was all in a 90. The only sutible tank mates for him are equal or larger Oscars and Plecos. I bit me a few times when i dangeled my fingers in the tank to feed him. Drew blood. Sorry for the OT in the message.
