RO/DI Installation

i bought an ro/di unit a month or 2 ago. i decided that i was going to get it installed some time soon. but the plumber wanted to charge me 75 bucks for the first 3/4 of an hour and 17.50 for every quarter hour after. he says it is a time operation and it has taken him up to 2 hours which would cost me almost 200 dollars. i didn't even pay that much for the unit. how long does installing an ro/di normally take? and how hard is it?

Do you want a permanent installation ?
If so - get a saddle fitting and do it yourself.
Plumbing's just like connecting an icemaker to a fridge.
Then mount your RO unit somewhere.
Or you can just connect it to a faucet or shower or whatever.
There are several ways to hook one up.
What do you want to do ?

I just bought a RO system from lowe's and it took me about two hours to install it. It came with all of the fittings to attach to my plumbing though. It's got it's own seperate faucet and a 3 gallon holding tank. I don't know much of anything about plumbing and it didn't take me more than two hours to get the whole unit installed. Did yours come with an installation kit, or just the unit itself? If it didn't come with the kit, you might consider taking it back and purchasing one with the installation kit. Hope that helps some...

Mine is hoolked up to an old shower outlet in my basement. I just put a garden faucet on the end and hooked up the filter. Took me about 30 min.

I have the same Lowe's system and I installed it in my stand, running the new water line into the stand was the only complicated part and, even then, I had the job finished in about 2 hours. Speaking of the Lowe's RO system, stcardoza, did you find nylon fittings to replace the brass fittings that come *after* the RO unit? If so, might I ask where, I can't seem to find them :(
Later and good luck in your project, it's not hard at all,
Paul

I believe it has to be cold water. Where you going to re order your filter elements from?

I hooked up mine in the storage room in the garage on the inlet to my water heater. Mounting the RO/DI on the wall and setting up containers with float valves and everything took about an hour.
