RO/DI Question

I've read through many of the previous posts on the subject, but still have a few questions and I hope you'll indulge me.
I've scanned the posts about which units are good and I've seen several different choices. I have only a 42G tank now so my water needs are small. However, I'm looking to get a bigger tank at some point, so I want a unit that can handle it.
I'm thinking that 100gpd - 125gpd is enough both outputwise and pricewise.
Do I really need the exterior tank that some units offer? Seems like I could just use a bucket or trash can as long as I plan ahead. I'm not looking to use this for drinking water. Thoughts?
I'm going to install this beneath the sink. I'm certainly no plumber. Is it really as easy as using the self-piercing valves for the feed and excess water?
Has anyone had really good results with a certain brand/model? bad results with a certain/brand or model?
thanks again

was wandering the same thing about the tank is it necessary have been looking at them on the bay auction site and they have 6 stage for 59$ plut 32 shipping w/out that tank and the tank only holds like 4.5 gallons so i think it would be worthless for water changes and such since you will probly need at least 10 gallons at a time i was just wandering if that tank is necessary to with a tank they are like 95$ on the site

Actually I would be suprised if you needed more than a 50 or 75gpd unit, I maintain 6 tanks right now ranging from a 75gallon to a 225 gallon and I used a 74gpd unit (It is in use a lot but that is good for a RO unit). Anyway, it is my understanding that the rejection (getting rid of bad stuff) is higher the lower the gpd. So I wouldn't get anything over 75gpd if I were you.
