ro/di unit

I am getting a ro/di unit due to evaporation and was going to originally run it to a holding resevoir with an auto top off to my sump. Can I just run the ro/di unit directly to the sump using a shut off float and doing away with the holding resevoir? The reason I ask is because I read the following "The Auto Shut-Off Float Kit is not recommended for evaporation replacement in aquariums. For these applications, we recommend either our SpectraPure® Single Tank Liquid Replenishers or Multiple Tank Liquid Replenishers" Any help is greatly appreciated as I am losing a gallon of water a day and ir's a pain to lug ro/di water around. Thanks :help:

From what I have read you can run ro/di line into float valve mounted in sump. Just make sure your ro/di unit has a ASOV (auto shut off valve), otherwise your ro/di will be running all the time. I would also suggest using a ballvalve before the float valve so you can close ro/di line for maintenence on sump. This is what I plan on doing when my ro/di gets here tommorow. The only thing that I am not sure about is using this with a kalk drip, I assume that a higher drip rate on the Kalk drip will allow less ro/di water through the float valve.
Anyone have any experience using these two setups together?
You might also consider splitting ro/di line so you have one line going to float valve in sump, and the other line going to a float valve in "brute" garbage can for mixing new salt water for water changes. Then you can think about setting up a auto water changer if you have the room. I have one designed for my system if you are interested let me know.

Thanks for the info sco999, as far as the auto water changer goes I think I will
focus on the RO/DI unit for now :D
