RO/DI Unit...

I just got a USED Kent Maxxima 4 Stage RO/DI unit from a friend only to find out that I don't have the faucet adapter and one of the 3 glass canisters has been broken off the unit. It also doesn't have the pressure guage or purity monitor which new models come standard with. What is necessary for me to have for this thing to work properly? Am I better off just throwin it away and gettin a new one off the big auction site? thanks

Your still in good shape.....You can get all the parts you need for you unit online....The place I like to use is Custom Aquatics. You can get the pressure gauge really cheap and a replacement clear canister for the RO/DI unit.....As far as the faucet adapter you can check Lowes or Home Depot and get the parts you need to hook it to the faucet or again you can use the place I mentioned earlier. As far as the TDS meter or (purity monitor) AirWaterIce sells a very nice unit that is a dual unit which means it not only reads the quality of your output, but also lets you monitor the input water quality as well......They have several neat things for you RO units as well....Check em out!!!!!

I was looking at the Kent Maxxima Hi-S 35gpd setup and was wandering how they stack up to the other Ro/Di units. Any thought or suggestions are greatly appriciated as I'll be buying one at tax time. No more WalMart water trips for me!

If the TFC filter is still good, you might think of salvaging. Else, else toss it.
I think all RODI units are the same. Just find one with features you like (Plain Jane or with TDS/ pressure gauge, etc.). There are just a few companies making prefilters and fewer making TFCs.

by the time you replace the membrane and the cartridges you are better off buying a new unit.
Course that also depends on the gallons per hour and the membrane it uses.

This is where alot of people make the mistake thinking they are all the same....They aren't....The outsides might be identical, but what's inside is where they differ.....The big auction site on their bigger 100gpd are junk!!!!!!!!
Ask the guy what the rejection rate is on the membrane and I bet it's under 95 and will probably tell you around 90 percent rejection rate which is rather poor, when you can get a smaller unit like 75gpd and get a rejection rate of around 98-99 percent with a good quality membrane......Take AirWaterIce Typhoon III super units and top quality membranes with high rejection rates on the 75gpd and smaller, but when you go up in gallonage you sacrifice rejection rate which is very important....
The comment about by the time you replace the membrane would be cheaper to buy a new unit is ridiculous
Depends where you shop at I guess, but maybe try checking out prices from AirWaterIce, Custom Aquatics, etc......The hobby isn't cheap an a RO unit is a vital piece of equipment......Look at Spectrapure units very good, and they will cost you more, but they give spec sheets on their membranes.....
As far as membrane manufacturers there are very, and I mean very few, and I would have to double check, but think there is only 1 membrane manufacturer and that is Dow. Do some comparison shopping at different places and see what prices you come up with for replacement filters....Again the comment about replacements is insane...What do you do buy a new unit when it's time to change out the filters???? I replace my membrane on my Kent every 6 months regardless, and it's not breaking the bank......The Kent purity monitors are junk in my opinion....I would opt for the ones from AirWaterIce with dual readings....You not only can monitor you water output, but also you input to the unit as well and costs less than the Kent monitor.....I've owned both!!!!

Boy go to AirWaterIce and good quality filter replacements for the Typhoon III RO/DI unit would run you to completely change out everything around $145.00....that includes the membrane and all the others..... Not bad IMO.......
Again the higher the GPD you sacrifice your rejection rate or other words your water quality.....When you go above 75gpd your rejection rate will drop, and it isn't really benefical to have 100gpd with poor rejection rates

Right ... If you take a 75 GPD from company A and comparing that to a 75 GPD from company B. Chances are, they use the same or similar internal filters.... Very likely, your 75 GPD TFC is a Dow Filmtec.

go to lowes and ask for a WATTS BRASS FITTING PART NUMBER PABV-664 that is the part that will take the place of the faucet adapter i just spent 2.5 hrs at lowes doing the same thing the part number should be the time saver

Thank you all so much for your input. I wouldn't be wanting anything bigger than a 35-50 gpd unit because this will only be in use for a 55g for quite some time. I'll be sure to look up this thread when I get home and do some research on the exact parts I need and the best bang for the buck. :) I love this site! Cool if i bake everyone my famous lasagna? Maybe I should make this a poll thread. :p

I have a kent Marine Maxxima 35S RO unit. I am filling my tank (90gallon) and the sediment prefilter is all brown. The tank is about half filled. When is the time I replace the filter? Also am I better off with the 1 mic or 5 mic? How often should I replace the other filters/membranes?
