(im using "red sea" salt)? any extra buffers needed? and also if you use ro water do you need to age the water for a week or to or can u just add it in.?

I purchased the typhoon iii from air, water, ice which was reccomended to me by folks on this site. It does a great job and has a di unit as well.
YOur salt mix should buffer the water adequately and add back necessary minerals. YOu might want to check for iodine. I do add a small pack of iodine to my tank water when I change it, but I do 20-25 gallons every other week and when I started adding the iodine, I noticed an improvement in all inhabitants, plus my shrimp molt cleaner with it and I havent lost any shrimp since I started adding this.

I picked up a relatively inexpensive unit on an auction site that has worked well. It's not the fastest unit it terms of output, but I turn it on and let it fill a 5 gallon bucket a few days before I do the water change. No rhyme or reason to this, just the way my schedule works out. Like I said, my unit is slow, so it takes a good couple of hours to completely fill my bucket. After that I add the salt and I do add some trace elements (such as iodine, molyb, strontium, calcium). Not sure if they're really needed but it seems to help.
Keep in mind how RODI systems work. You'll need a location to install the system that has a water inlet (from your main supply) and then a drain. The water flows across the RO membrane and only some of it (a very small amount) goes through the membrane. The rest goes to drain. That is where you'll see differences in output. How much water actually goes through the membrane. This is a function of membrane size, water pressure and the amount of "hardness" in your incoming water.
If you find that your water pressure is way too low (say 20 psig or so), you can always purchase an inline pump to up the pressure to meet the minimum requirements of your system.
In terms of brand names, I'm not much help. I usually look at what I need from the system and go from there and try not to get hung up on names.

I have the typhoon and it works great. i didnt get the typhoon 3 cause i already had a pressure gauge and tds meter, etc.
Mine makes ~ 5 gallons of ro/di water in under 1.5 hrs, never really timed it but know its under 1.5 hrs.
Very nice unit!

I also just recently got a Typhoon I and it came /w a gauge and meter FOR FREE!... it produces top notch RO/DI water and with adaquate pressure can produce 75 gpd (gallons per day) which is the highest amount I have seen for a unit this cheap.
I highly recommend it... and so do my new pets

My RO machine is alot different. I have a medical RO machine. It will make 4 gallons of Pure RO water per minute. Now, these machines are very pricy - 4,000 plus. Luckily my husband is in the field.
We do not let the water "sit" at all - but we do have to add additives since the RO machine takes everything out of the water.
