As long as the water is circulating in room temperature it will last for a very, very long time. I have a container that my water is stored in, and with a bubbler for oxygen it is still good for weeks.

Doubtful that you are going to circulate water in your jug/container from the lfs

It's not going to "go bad" but if it sits there stagnant for a very long period of time...well you can imagine. At the very least, shake the container up once every few days.

I thought that you were referring to your 5 or 6 gallon "container" that you bring the water home in. If you are putting it into a larger holding container, then yes, you can put some kind of powerhead in there to keep it circulating, and it will last for a very long time. But if it's just sitting in the small container, not moving, it will become stagnant and you will have to throw it out eventually.

Then it goes back to what I was talking about....it's doubtful that you are going to go thru the trouble of trying to recirculate/heat the water in a 5 gallon can. So if it just sits for months and months, it probably will become stagnant. But if you shake the can up once or twice a week, it will probably last a lot longer.
