The reason I suggest just using the RO water is because it takes so long to make the RO/DI water. But anyway I've learned to have patience in this hobby, So i guess I'll use the RO/DI water.
I bought a Kent Marine ro/di hi-s unit. The hi-s portion removes silicates from the water. The regular units may get silicates but I had to make sure it got em all out.
Dr. Phil, Red algea isn't caused by silicates but phosphates play a big picture, it really is called a cynobacteria and should be treated with antibiotics according to my fish book by Mr. Moe. I have it and my system has been established for 2 years. I won't use antibiotics in my system. I'm very sensitive to phosphate and always check the water I buy at my LFS. It has always come up zero. Now the question but not to hijack the tread, how do we safeguard our water? RO/DI that's all I use. Now phosphates come from feeding and fish waste as well as from outside sources. What do we do? Anyone?
