instead of buying a RO can I buy fresh drinking water like aquafina but by the gallons.

depends on the mineral content of the water. i heard to stay away from spring water. i'm sure someone else can elaborate.
a RODI filter will pay for itself quickly though and I think you will find its the way to go. try looking on the famous auction site. i got a 100 gal/day unit for $150 and have been EXTREMELY happy with the investment for a long time now.

If you go with store bought water, use distilled water - not drinking water.
I would also highly recommend buying your own RO/DI unit.
