RO prep?

I am filling my new tank with RO water from the LFS. This is requiring many trips because I only have one 7gal container. The store is close so no problem. My question is, what is RO prep? The LFS guy, who is actually quite a rip off artist, told me that I need to put "RO prep" into the water before I add salt because, " it has the reclaim chemistry needed for the RO water". Any thoughts on this?

Just my opinion, but if you use a good quality salt mix (Instant Ocean or Reef Crystals) you don't need that stuff!
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe I am right!!
Your LFS guy must be my lfs guy's brother. A retired used car salesman!

I believe you are correct reef fool. Good quality salt (Instant Oceon for example) and good quality RO o RO/DI water is all you need.

i agree no need to "prep" the ro water if your using a good quality salt. i have a ro/di unit and all i do after making the water is add instant ocean salt and i'm good to go.

Thanks, that was my plan, RO water and Instant ocean salt. I just wanted to make sure I was not missing anything.

JUst another bit of info. If your are planning a reef tank, then use reef crystals instead. It has more calcium and trace elements and will give you a better start for a reef. If not, then IO is fine.
Good Luck,
