RO set up question

Have had my tank going for about 4 months now and im looking at using my home RO unit to make my own salt water. it is a kenmore ultra filter, has a prefilter, ro membrane and a post filter.
Now my question is does it matter if i have it hooked up to the water softner (will soft water hurt an aquarium) Im thinking the ro unit will remove any problems but i wanted to hear it from others in case im wrong.
Also what else if anything do i need to do to newly mixed salt,

[hr]
mix as directed, small pump to keep flow going and test with hydrometer. anything else?
Maybe this is not a good idea to use the home system i just dont want to have to buy another RO unit and filters. and i tire of driving to the LFS 30 mins away to get water when i need a water change.
Thanks in advance to everyone. ive learned alot from this site already

yeah it is salt that is used to make soft water, but i think it is removed by the filters leaving pure water behind when it comes out of the RO unit. I was just hoping to hear that others have it set up this way (after the softner) and dont have any problems or hoping to hear if it is a big no no before I go ahead.

Welcome to SWF.COM Pallan!!!!
There's nothing wrong with hooking up the RO after the softener. In fact it will probably prolong the life of the RO filters.

thanks
ive ordered replacement filters and ro membrane as i know mine are old and they needed to be changed anyway. Ive also got salt on the way. I was told to still declorinate the water. Any feelings on this? I ordered some as well just in case but i think the filter takes the clorine out beofre it hits the ro membrane.

From everything I've read there is no need to declorinate RO water. You may want to wait for someone else with more experience to chime in though. Anyway I've been adding mine with no chems. for the past 3 weeks or so without any problems. :happyfish
