RO System - What Do You Think?

I have previously posted that I have had probelms with RO system I purchased and I am tired of purchasing and lugging around water from Wal-Mart. Here is what I am looking at doing and was just wondering what your thoughts are?
I am looking at purchasing an RO setup from a local water company and here is the deal they have offered:
RO system installed in my basement
100 gpd membrane
30 Gallon holding tank next to system in basement
Line run to fridge & icemaker
Matching faucet installed in kitchen with line run
Line run to aquarium with faucet head
System installed
Lifetime warranty on parts & installation (Excluding filters)
Complete package installed for $1,200.00.
It seems a little high but I will have spent that amount in approx. 8 months at the rate I am going. Also, with the money I have already invested in everything I am really considering doing this.
Just looking for opinions. Thanks!

Do you want/need to run your fridge and everything else off this system?
If you have no complaints about your drinking water, then you can do this for less than 1/3 of that cost by simply purchasing an RODI system along with a float valve and a holding vessel (most of us DIYers use Rubbermaid Brute garbage cans).
Plus, remember that deionized water is not suitable for drinking water, so there is no way that this company is installing DI. This means you won't get the benefits of DI for aquariums such as reduced phosphates, etc.

Ummmm 1200 BUCKS?!?!
My RO/DI unit cost maybe a total of 150 bucks. Has a 3 gallon holding tank for RO drinking water through a faucet.
I think I got the dual reefkeeper from airwaterice (google it).
Yes I run it into a 5 gallon bucket from the kitchen sink... and then use that in my auto top off but for 1,050 dollars and something I can drink out of and is EASY to change filters on and set up..... well worth 150 bucks.

no dont do this. you can spend $200-$250 and do the same thing. I bought mine from bulk reef supply and have it going to my fridge for ice and my sink to drink.
$1200... OUCH

You actually need some of the nutrients in regular drinking water. RO and RO/DI removes just about everything.

IMO I would do what SCSInet suggested.

very debateable. Mostly coming from the extreme environmentalists because of the large amount of waste water that RO units produce.

U R right about the amount of water wasted, I try to use it for plants and the washing machine whenever possible, but I was referring more to the fluoride added to city water for tooth decay prevention.

Not to mention the extreme cost of the installation above, if you just buy a 5-stage RO/DI unit for the Aquarium only that could save you about $1000.
Do you realize how many corals you could but for $1000.
Once again ,IMO, I agree with SCSInet.

You do not need a line run to your tank with fresh water, nor do you want a holding tank in the basement. The line from your faucet would be fine. Those changes alone will drop the price.
IMO RO water is fine you don't really need the DI for the fish tank.

I grabbed a 50GPD one off of ---- for 60 bucks. Partical filter, ro membrane, carbon filter & di bed. It attached easily to any faucet so i keep it in my spare bathroom and just use a simple piece of vinyl tubing to get the water in a 5 gallon pail.
Cheap and works great for me.
