Travis, I don't have any links but I can tell you that RO or RO/DI units purify the water to near lab quality. They run anywhere from 150 to 250 bucks for an average size unit for hobby use. They produce from 30 to 150 gallons a day in that price range. While not absolutely necessary, they can end up saving money in the long run over purchasing by the gallon from your local WalMart or whatever. I have one installed under my 220 tank and love it. Installation is really pretty straight forward, the included instructions should explain everything you want to know. Here's a pic of how I've mounted mine but of course every situation is different so ...

I'm wanting to get one of these myself, as I am buying bottled water and it is expensive, not to mention a pain to haul from the store and store all those bottles.
Is that a container that you got with the RO model that you purchased?
Also, I was thinking of hooking up an RO to feed in to the waterline that supplies my fridge and icemaker with water, as well as into a separate container for fish water. This should be fesible just by rigging the tubing, right?

I had a lot of trouble with nitrates coming from my tap water (110+) so I purchased the RO/DI from airwaterice.com
and the water coming out is very pure .
I have nothing but great things to say about the TYPHOON
jmo .....

thanks for the pics............With my RO unit........will it explain the process of how to use it? Im not sure how to run tap straight in and waste straight out.........hopefully it will come with good instructions
THANKS GUYS!!!!!

this is what im looking at..........a 24 gallon per day RO unit...........215$ from this site..........would this be suitable for my 55 gal? Or do I have to go with the 54 gal per day?

broomer has Kent's Maximma RO and he is very pleased with it. That is likely the way I will go too.
Geez, sounds like you're going to have water pipes running quite a distance there!
If you run the water into a storage container, how easy is it to get to the water to your tank? What happens if the container is full? Does the unit shut off?
I'd like to have it run to my refridgerator pipe most of the time, but when I need water for my tank, I want to switch the water with a shut valve, or something, so that the water runs into a small storage container.
How easy is it for a DIY DUMMY to do this? I was thinking of just getting the plummer to come in and do it.

I just installed a ro unit from Lowe's. The water quality is supurb..and my tank seems to like it as well.
My coffee tastes great, too!
Nowhere on the box was the output listed. And it uses 5 gallons to make 1 gallon of RO.
Installation was straightforward and uncomplicated; however, The system only produces 9 gallons per day! This makes for a long process doing a 20 gallon change. I paid $200 for this system, and am disapointed. I should have researched it better.
But, live and learn.
Beth, a DIY dummy with a drill and a crescent wrench can install one.

If it is hooked to the hot aren't you setting off your water heater on demand. Its the same if your running the water in the sink(hot) and after a period of time your water heater goes on .
that adds to the cost of the ro unit. cold seems alot cheaper and I rather have one leak then two possible. thats just my opinion.
good luck

when i run the hot water i get a bit of feedback of the cold to the hot but that's it not a lot .
im going to put a check valve in it soon

Don't forget there is another way to hook up these puppies--for the terminally tool challenged--just get a screw-on (looks like a garden hose end) with a gate valve and screw that on to your laundry room sink. The gate valve allows you to have water run either in the sink or thru the system. The waste line just runs into the laundry room sink and the "good" line goes into a large rubbermaid tub. This is really low tech but it works.

I hooked up one of the typhoons saturday.
If I can do it ANYONE can. I AM tool challenged!
I was worried about the push in connectors but they don't leak.
Just don't pull one out untill the pressure is out of the line, shower time.
The only thing I would say is add a valve between the supply and the filter to isolate it for cleaning.
It took 48 hours to fill a 180.
The only thing I don't get is all 3 filter chambers fill with water but the DI chamber just trickles down. Is this normal?

I want one for my 30 gal. What do you suggest? The Kent replacement membranes are very expensive. How much life is in a membrane before a new one is needed?
I saw and add by Kent for a regenerable ion exchande filter, any good? This seems cheaper as far as replacement parts goes. I'm not sure how often the cation and anion liquids have to be added and replaced?
These units seem complicated and expensive.
