RO Water from Walmart

The permanent thread above mentions getting water from Walmart, and another thread somewhere says get the ones with the green cap. Well they didn't have enough of those but the blue cap ones seem identical except for the color and it says 'spring water' instead of 'drinking water'. Can anyone shed some light on what is different about the two and whats best for my tank. I plan to start with fish only and live rock. Thanks :notsure:

read the label closely. it should say somewhere one there how it's filtered. just look for reverse osmosis.

The biggest factor for any water that you buy, is to test it before you use it!
Do Not take ayones word for what it contains or how it has been processed!

I have been using the distilled water from Walmart for several months without any problems. It has a purple cap....

I get the water from Walmart and it says Reverse Osmosis right on the label. .37 a gallon. Way better than the trash that comes out of my faucets and the fish are happier too. At some point I'll get an RO unit for under the sink.

Superwalmarts have a RO machine back of store where bottled water is, think its called culligan RO water. You take your containers in the store and fill them from that machine, you can even by jugs there and reuse them when you need a refill.

That is the way our SuperWalmart is i bought 7 gallon cotainers and i fill them up from the machine,and reuse them when i need to do a water change 33 cents a gallon.

Same but I got 4-5gal jugs and its .39 a gal

The blue cap is no good. You need either the green cap(RO) or purple cap(distilled). RO is the best for your tank.

We bought an RO unit for our sink. (well, really for the fish) At any rate, I never realized the difference in the taste compared to the sink water. It is well worth the money and hassle free. Just something to consider. :notsure:

One question though, that caption, it says and/or and gives three processes, is is posssible that it may or may not be RO? It could just be distilled or deionized... thats confusing...
That said, i used distilled from just about anywhere: the grocery store, cvs, etc just wherever im at and think to pick it up.

As long as it's RO water it's ok; the price is well worth it on your tank; it will save you a lot of headaches.

no actually what i think its saying is its processed by reverse osmosis & Ozonation in addition to, steamed distillation AND/OR deionization
sorry i tried to make the font big enough on the pic and it cut off the "AND/OR deionization" bit
wal mart sells it for .68 cents here

Testing for RO or Distilled water.
1. First test the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), you can buy a very inexpensive meter for $20, I don't use water in my tanks that is higher than 5ppm on a reef or 15ppm on a Fish only.
2. Test with a FRESHWATER test kit: Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Phosphate. All should be 0.
