my wife got me a ro unit as a gift trying to save me some trips to the store with the bottles,it is the ro 35hi-s 35gpd unit by kent marine .is this unit going to be ok without the di stage? it filters 97-99% of impurities. i thought i also needed the di stage but with 97-99% effectiveness is it really necessary? kent said it would be ok the only thing i see that i am lacking is a tds meter.

Should be fine. If you are keeping really fragile corals and inverts (ie: ones that cant tollerate much in the way of change), then you may want the DI stage.
A TDS meter is a good idea anyway. Lets you know when to change the filters out or flush the membrane. Anything under 10 is good although I don't let mine go above 3...but that's just me being ultra conservative.
