Do a search but a quick diagnosis:
#1 Spring Water: Good to drink, but contains too many disolved nutirents which can contibute to nitrate and algae spikes.
#2 Ro/di water the best possible for your tank for making water and topping off water evaporation. Reverse osmosis/deoinized superior.
#2 Distilled water, I read that it is the purest water possible, but not economical for the home aquarium!
Good Luck!

distilled is the same as RO, its just expensive...if you have an RO filter on the water supply of your home its the best bet. airwatericedotcom...

RO/DI water: can buy from LFS, or from some Walmarts, Culligan's (water purification people if they have a franchise in your area), make it yourself with a flitering unit you can buy an attach the unit to home water supply.
Distilled: I have used this many times. I have had NO problems, but have heard that some people have concerns about Copper in the water in low levels if copper pipping is used to 'distill' the water.

RO/DI water can be bought at your LFS i usually pay .50 gallon or you can make your own with your own home system, which is kind of costly at first but will soon pay for it self over a short time! by saving you time and money of going to the LFS.. see www.airwaterice.com and see typhoon 3
