Roaming anenome

Hello all:
I have a carpet anenome who has moved from the front to the back (where he stayed for about 3 weeks) and now over night he climbed to the top of my live rock and opened up REAL wide. This all looks great, but when he's open it blocks my lighting to some coral frags underneath. I think the coral has attached itself to the rock so does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to coral to die off.

Ryan,
Anenome will move around a tank until it finds a comfortable spot for itself. It may move again and again if conditions in that spot change. If you move it off the rock where it is, it may move itself back. It might be easier to move your frags.

how long have you had the carpet? do you have a large open area on your sandbed? what kind of lighting do oyu have? i would leave hiim alone for the next couple of days, he will likely move to a different location that suits him anyway. if he doesnt, and you can peel him off, id place him on the sandbed, as this is the natural habitat for carpets in the wild. they like a nice deep sandbed, so they can sink their foot to the bottom and attatch to the glass. try this only as a last resort though!

You may want to try adjusting the current in your tank too.

So if I have to I can "peel" him off? Do I need gloves? I've heard they can sting, I never had to touch him when I put him in the tank.

yes! Wear gloves. You'll get a carpet burn if you don't (ha, ha!). Seriously. they have one of the more potent stings of the anemones.
