rock question

I dont no if its possible but where i live there is a never ending supply of real lava rocks like at cratters of the moon. anyway if its cleaned or boiled or what ever, is it possible to use it as base rock and trickle down from l.r. if not can someone tell me why not please.
its not that im cheap I was just wondering so i could have something a little different.

its probably full of minerals and impurities that would leech into your water. i wouldnt use it.
