While building my tank i would like to leave as much space as possible in the front, can i stack my rock against the back of the tank(of course securly to prevent land slide) with out causing any problems like stress on the glass, cleaning or any other forseeable problems

Experts always advise against having the rockwork touch the glass at all. It can crack the glass or cause stress on the silicone seals. I know this sounds preachy and overprotective, but imagine coming home to 55 gallons of saltwater on the floor. :D

Yep, like he said ^^
I do have one piece that uses the glass to brace it cuz its too big, but most of it is supported by the bottom. The rest may be touching, but not leaning against...

You can build towers by drilling the rock and driving acrylic dowell rods through them. Place the towers near the rear glass. They don't need to rest against the glass to stand up.

Mr X has a nice pic of the process in one of his threads...I think is was the "stumped" thread.
I looked it up for ya.
