Folks use various types of rock...but LR will provide filtration properties than limestone and other rock simply can not match.

Plus it has lots of nice little stuff on it that alot of fish like to pick at and some even survive on.

That is the place I bought my base rock from. It is really great rock. I only bought one order from them at first,but I was so pleased I winded up buying another 2 orders.
