i just found a rock outside my house and wanted to know if i could put it in my salt water tank . the rock weighs about 30 to 40 lbs. i got a 150 gallon tank going. i have some rocks in there but not nearly enough. i have boild the rock . tested with vinegar for lime. some say go for it some say dont. the rock looks identical to a rock youd pull out of the ocean. its a gray ish color. has holes and alot of indentions.

In my opinion, never put anything into your tank that you dont get from a fishstore/hobbyist. i know its cheaper, but just dont, you have no idea what could happen.

All though I have done it and only put it in a tank that had junk in anyways.
Its never a good idea to do it, you never know what metals or other stuff the saltwater will start to dissolve later and leach out into the tank. I still have one in my tank now but its a lava rock and has tons of holes through it. Even then it will never be as good as coral base rock that has been in the ocean for a while.

just make your own.....portland cement and water for the most basic version.......about 10 to 15 bucks for about a 100 pds of rock
