Is anyone else mad that rome is cancelled? That was the best show on HBO. I think if they could have done a better job marketing the show it could have saved it. Anybody else a fan of the show?

Disappointed, but I know it has cost HBO a few million, so its impossible to keep it going as a TV series, when its approaching the cost of a movie production.

Wow I didn't know it cost that much, I saw something that said the first season alone cost $100 million alone.

how far could they take? Rome is best known for the Julius Caesar and Caesar Octavian eras. so since they killed off Julius in season 1 and Octavian has become ruler in season 2 (which means Antony and Cleo are dead), there's not really much else for them to go on with.
I like Rome, but it's NOT the best show on HBO. the best shows are:
1. The Sopranos
2. The Wire
3. Deadwood (THAT one, I'm mad they're cancelling)
4. Big Love
5. Entourage
6. Rome

I think there is a lot of history to be covered, but HBO pretty much trashed the real historical characters portrayed in ROME.

actually, if anybody did that, it would be the BBC, not HBO. If I'm not mistaken, HBO did some of the funding and the distribution, but the BBC actually made Rome. that's why they were all english actors.

Agreed I watched a few episodes and thought it was terrible. Well done but the history was all over the place.
There is way more to Rome than Caesar and Augustus. Caligula was mentally disturbed. Nero burned (historians believe he started the fire) down 1/3 of the city killing thousands so he could build an elaborate pleasure palace. Trajan extended Rome to its greatest extent. Diocletian split the empire into two. Constantine moved the capital to Byzantium (renamed Constantinople and now Istanbul). Don't forget the rise of Christianity that evolved within the Roman Empire and resulted in many years of Christian persecution and killing in the streets and the arena/Colosseum by lions and other exotic animals. And my favorite the Germanic invasions that eventually led to the fall of Rome. Attila the Hun from Asia scared the Germanic tribes more than Rome and they fled within Rome's borders to flee the invading Huns. Rome was sacked several times by the Vandals and Visigoths. I love Rome but did not like HBO's version.
Sopranos sucks too now. It is very slow. I love Deadwood the history is great.
