So I have been fiddling with my sump/refugium and I tinkered some more this morning .... and then I shut off all my pumps and added some more water ... and I also closed all my ball valves - except on my SCWD .... went to take shower .... came back downstairs to ..... my first little flood .... wife has called me twice .... not happy ....
Question - this is on indoor/outdoor carpeting - so what can I do to help minimize stain/salt smell??

this has happened to me acouple times. just get a wet dry vac and suck it up. then put fresh water on it scrub then suck it up again. you can do that as many times as you feel nessisary. if you dont have a wet dry vac then you can use a regular vac but i would recomend a wet dry from now on.

Sadly had this happen on hard wood floors. I had to take down my entire 90g aquarium to make sure all the water that could have seeped underneath the wooden stand was cleaned up and dried out. :(

go invest in a carpet shampooer (sp) you can get a really good one for @ $150. It will serve the purpose of both wet vac and scrubber. Not bad thing to have around the house either. Hell that should calm your wife down: a new vacum cleaner. Too bad it's not mothers day or a birthday. She will love you for it, prepare for an explosive weekend.

If the carpet isnt perm attached to the floor..and you are able to, put some blocks of something under it to aid in its drying...also put a fan blowing across it too...these will aid in the speedy drying of the carpet...hopefully prior to mildew.

You are joking? I don't have to go off on you for being chauvenistic or anything, right? :p
and overanalyzer--sorry bout the flood :( but yeah, i'd bet lots and lots of freshwater will help--think of it as if your dog peed on the carpet and clean it as you would that

If your flood is big enough - you home owners insurance might actually pay to have some professionals come out and take care of it. It never hurts to ask and you would be suprised what insurance will pay for some times.

This has happened sooo many times I stop counting them. I used a wet vac to clean up the mess. By now my carpet is shot, I wonder sometimes if this is worth all the trouble :( . After sitting back and watching the tank I don't think about it anymore:) .

This used to happen periodically to me until I got a larger sump and this no longer occurs. But when it was happenning periodically I would rent a steam cleaner to clean all of the salt out of the carpet and matting by saturating the carpet with fresh water a couple of times and sucking it back out. Fortunately the tank was in an addition which has linoleum floors as opposed to hard wood floors like the rest of the house.
