ok i know ur all going to yell at me but i would like to add a round stingray to my 70. from what ive been reading on these boards, for sharks and rays its not tank size, but footprint. my tank is 63.1"Lx17.7"W, and from a thread i forget the name of a 3' shark would would require a tank that was 6'Lx3'W. a round stingray from what ive read gets about 10" in diameter, so it would mostly likely need a tank that was 3'Lx1.5'W? am i right or did i grossly underestimate?

never gunna work.. the round stingrays reaches a length of 21.8 inches
i have two of them. my female i bought froms omeone who had her in a 100 gallont an k and was foced to sell her because she was soo big in there and had no room to swim or turn around, so a 70 gallon would be WAY too small

honestly you think that a 3' shark would be comfortable in a tank that is 6'x3'.if you are going to buy sharks or rays do the fish a favor and buy a tank that will give it some room to swim around.

a 3 foot shark would need something like 6 feet wide and 15 foot long, imo.

It was my stingray and it was in a 125 actually and it was too small I would say that you would need at least a 180 for it to be happy. I was just lucky that someone with a proper size tank was looking for one. Not everyone is as lucky as me.

basically don't put any sharks or rays in any tank smaller than a 180 regardless of the footprint of the tank no ray would ever be ok in a 70 imo... it sucks to hear but its true!

Thats awesome...Maybe someday you can have little ones.... :cheer: I know she used to love to eat out my hands as well. Sting rays are a very cool fish as long as you have the right tank. I pretty much only had her in there and was still not enough room. They need to swim. Just like sharks do.

i remember some1 saying there was a shark that only got like 8in, any idea on what size tank that would need? and what was the name, and where could i get one?

i dont think there is ANY shark that only stays 8 in , and if their is it isnt avaliable in the aquarium trade or everyone would have them.. Coral catshark is the smallest and still needs a huge tank

yea but imo a small shark is no fun the great thing about sharks is that there big! it's sometimes hard to wait for things but in the end its much better whedn you know you have what you wanted and are happy with it rather then just settling for the smallest one save your money and get a MUCH bigger tank and then think about getting your shark and ray!

im sure their might be a shark out their that stays that small my point is you wont be able to find it in the aquarium trade unless you know a diver...
one of the reasons you might not be able to find it is probably somethigng crrazy like
it lives in a crazy depth of water or
it lives in extrremely cold water
etc. etc.

The dwarf lantern is only 8 inches full grown but good luck finding one for sale. Epaulette would probably be the smalllest regularly traded shark or coral cat sharks like psusocr1 said.
