Royal Gramma got attacked?

I came in today and my Royal Gramma was missing part of his tail fins and had a spot on his side. It looked like something had been nipping its fins and then its side. The only other fish is a percula clowm. Would the clown pick on the gramma in a 100 gallon or is it something else?

i would think it's something else, but you never know. if you just put this gramma in, i can tell you to give it some time and it will adjust and learn to defend himself (if it's another fish). my roomate put a gramma in his 55 with 3 3-stripe damsels (very aggressive), a maroon clown, a blue fin damsel, and a sail fin tang. now the gramma has his area and he stands tall to defend it. it's cool to watch him open his mouth at other fish to ward them off. just be patient, in a week or two he will rule his roost! :D

It has been in there a week and It only comes out when I feed brine shrimp. Did I get a shy one or will it become more social and come out more?

it'll get braver once it gets hungry. the gramma in his tank now comes up and snatches food away from the other fish. they learn how to be quick real fast! :D

I've had 2 royal grammas in my tank for a couple months. I have a large blue damsel that I never have been able to catch to get him out. He picked on the grammas at first, but last night I saw the gramma facing him off and opening his mouth at the damsel. The damsel backed down and left the area. Guess the grammas really do get more "tough"

Happy birthday! (I'm assuming that's why the cake beside your name) I do NOT recommend this but here's what happened with my royal gramma. He hid and hid the first few days, never hardly saw him. Then we had to move some LR for a different reason, put the rock in a laundry basket and when we went to put it back in tank the gramma was flopping around in bottom of laundry basket. That gramma shows itself all the time now, like it's saying I'm here! please don't send me to the laundry basket! Really, I'd just give it some time they are cool fish once they get used to their environment. Mine darts in and out of holes in LR and it's so cool to see it peeking out of different holes sometimes :D

Grammas will generally hide in the rocks and come out on occasion. The longer you have it the more you will see it.
The laundry basket trick isn't a good idea.
Percula clowns can be aggressive. They are territorial by nature. I had a pair for 14 1/2 years that took over a tank and would kill anything new placed in it. They even attacked my hand if I stuck it into the tank for any reason. If the clown was the first addition to the tank, it may be trying to reclaim its space.

DUH! If you can't share some personal screw ups with the board where's the fun. It can't be all problems all the time can it?

Sorry Dab - it was a joke - just missed the <g> after it. Loosen up. I've had rock dwellers end up in worse places for longer periods.
