Quick question. I have a royal gramma who only comes out during the night and morning. as soon as there is some light in the room, the fish is gone. Does anyone else have this experience??
I have only had the one I currently have, but he doesn't hide at all. He comes out as soon as the lights are on and is out and about all day.
What else do you have in the tank?
My Rg hides alot, It is natural for them to hide like this. You should read up a little on fish biographies, u could learn something. RG's tend to hide all day, it is their natural defence, and then they ust jet out to grab themselves some chow. That is natural behavior. They will decide when/ where they will feel safe. Some will hide, some will find a nice overhang to chill in. Just give him some time, and things should turn out fine.
well right now my tank is kind of bare, but i have a Porcupine puffer with an emporer angel whos just started to change colors, and I have a Naso Tang about 3-4 inches. The Royal Gramma has his little hole and really doesnt come out much, but if its normal then its good with me, when its out its NICE!
Yea, mine is actually hiding now. Hanging out in the corner all curled up. I dunno why, but he hasnt eaten. Maybe thats it. I try to feed him, but he just wont eat. Could he be afraid of the yellow tang? LOL, thanx
When a gramma hides all the time, there is danger in the tank. Your puffer and tang are the reason. My mimic frightened mine at feeding time purposely so as to eat all the food. Our six line wrasse really ended the grammas life. Just tormented him until he hid forever. Have taken the tang out. Six line wrasse is still in there because to catch it means tearing the entire tank apart. Not healthy to do. These fish have much written about them but not that they are terribly aggressive at all. We learn from experiance much of what can be put together. Of course there are many known aggressive fishes which I chose not to go with. My LFS has told me as much as I love the puffer, I would lose my other fish so never get one. Your gramma is trying to tell you something. I will never put another tang in my tank of any kind either. I do not believe what I read anymore. Upon putting neon gobies and a bi-color blennie in, removed our huge tang. The wrasse is leaving them alone after 3 weeks so think all will be fine. {Have never seen a 3 in. gramma! Wow. } Mine had been in my tank years before the other additions and had been happy and ate very well but was only maybe two inches as is two of my friends who have tanks. I have a 90 gal. not 100. gal. Back to the gramma, they are territorial and do attack fishes like our chromis and did go after other fishes when they came near his or her little overhang, which they must have. Most of their days when healthy is spent cruising their territory until something else bigger and more aggressive threatens them.
