as far as what you did at the lfs, I agree with everyone else in that it was silly and childish.
Now this is the best advice anyone has given yet! I guarantee you that if you said nothing and shrugged it off, then came home and emailed the corporate offices about what happened they would have sent you an apology and gift certificates.
I've done it with Home Depot, they screwed us on some tile work and refused to do anything for 3 weeks. I went on their website and it actually gives e-mail address for ALL the corporate officers. I sent them all the same email complaining and before the end of the day, the regional president himself called, apologized and gave me a full refund on everything (even let us keep the tile for free)
