Rust Color Algea

I have A LOT of brown or rust color algea and it has been there for probably 5 months. My fish store said it was diotom then sold me some red slime remover. The water is RO and the lights are on 7 hours a day for my 90 gal. system. I have about 15 crabs and no snails due to the use of copper (that was dumb). I clean it off the glass and some rocks (FOWLR) but in two days its back. It is really clumping in the sand and getting off the rocks. I have changed the filters in the R/O and still have same result. The red slime did very little. I have carbon bags in the sump and that cleared up some of the water but not the algea. All levels appear OK except Nitrate is slightly elevated.
I can't seem to clean it out and there is too much for the cleaning crew. It covers all the rocks and a lot of the sand. It's thick and clumpy.
Help?
