here is a picture of my 55 gallon hex when we first got it. It came with lights and a hood
it actually sat in a neighbors garage for 15 years through all the hurricanes etc.

Hi ryan,

im gonna move it into my room when we get back. it sat for 15 years so im a little nervous about breaking too. do you know when the sand will settle?

It doesn't look like you rinsed the sand enough. I rinsed mine so much that it cleared within 15 mins of putting it in the tank.

Yeah, I can understand your dad being a little worried about it breaking.
Hope the hurricane misses you guys. :scared:
It might take the sand a few days to settle down. But since you are going to move it anyway, it really shouldn't matter. it will just get stirred up again.

Put a hose into a container with the sand. Turn it on and let the water run over the top. Use the water pressure to disturb the sand. It'll eventually turn clear, or close to it. It may be a little more difficult now because the sand is in the tank. Is the stand stained, sealed, or polyurythaned?
Using this method, the crap you want to wash out of the sand rises with the water and flows out of the tank. The sand is heavier than the impurites so all you're left with is clean sand.
