Sad day in my Aquarium

Well My 135 was doing so well and all of a sudden I came home and my stingray has died.. I checked all of my levels yesterday and everything was great. I hope it was just from old age but my mind doesn't want to accept that. This has been like loosing a child to me and it may very well end my aquarium keeping days.
Sorry for the rant but I needed to talk about it somewhere and I felt like this woould be a good place for it.

I've only had him for about 3 months but he has been around for several years. I bought him from a fish store and he was a trade in. The guy who traded him had him for 2 years and the guy he got the ray from had him for several years also. I'm hoping it was old age b/c my tanks parimaters are excellent.

Well everyone has a different look on how long they can live. Some say up to 20 years and some say up to 30 years so In captivity you can probably cut that in half so 10 to 15 years. He could easily be that old.

just old age. My oscar fish got an infection and got weak, but he was 9 years old, and I didn't take care of his tank very well.

Sorry for your loss.
But it sounds like it was just old age unless there were any obvious signs of disease, and there is nothing you could have done about that. I was always counseled to get more attached to the tank as a whole living system than to any one animal in it. Aside from some fish, many marine animals do not have long lifespans in our tanks by the time they actually reach our tanks: most have already lived for quite some time as adults. So death from old age is always a factor.

You say you get attached to the tank as a whole but see he was the only thing in this tank and that's why I'm so attached. I will move on and I'm on the hunt for a new ray as soon as I get my filtration changed out and bettered.

Well I think that I just found out what happened and it wasn't old age. It appears that my heater decided to send about 1 volt of stray voltage through my tank. Seeing as to how a stingray relies on electric currents for senses it must have thrown him off balance and made him go crazy. At least I think I know what happened now and I have the voltage problem fixed but I have already lost my friend.
