Hey guys, me again. I've got my 90 gallon setup with 3-4" DSB, and i just threw in about 10 lbs of live rock to get things going. My MH light system will be in for a few days so i figure the LR will be ok on the flourescent for a little while. But obviously i am going to add a lot more LR to the tank, can i add the LR while the tank has already started to cycle from the 10lbs of LR i just put in??

If lr and ls is what you have currently in the tank it is ok to add more lr. It will help the tank cycle faster. If you had live fish or corals then it would be another story.

How much more lr are you going to add? With only 10 lbs in a 90 gal that's not much. If you want to cycle faster and completely you would need to add 50 -70 more lbs. If you plan on adding say 10 lbs at a time over time you are going to have a lot of mini cycles going on and that will mess with anything else you put in there. Once you have gotten completly through a cycle with at least 50 lbs live rock, it won't hurt to keep adding 5 - 10 lbs as time goes on. IMO/E :)

Continually adding LR will cause tons of mini-cycles that will stress anything in the tank. If you don't plan on adding anything to the tank until after all of the LR is added, the add the LR as you please. HTH

another reason NOT to add rock a little at a time--if you have most of it at once, you can scope out what pieces you might like for base and what pieces you might like for tops--wouldn't you just know it, you will get a great base piece in your final shipment and then you'd feel obligated to tear the whole thing apart to put it in place.

I also got a 90gl. and been one moth and a half running, with flourescent litighing and a 1 poud LR and it doesnt look very much alive. I was a bout to purchase a 50 pounder over the net from saltwaterfish is that good fiji and is it cured?
