sailfin tang pros and cons

I am debating on a sailfin tang. I have a Tomini tang that is the absolute hardiest fish i have ever had. I have never had good luck with yellow tangs though. Is a sailfin pretty hardy? List any pros and or cons. Thanks

I WOULD have thought that the yellows are hardier than the sailfins,, but the sailfins are big swimmers, need alot of swimming space. I dont know about compatability but if you do have the space and get one, maybe introduce at night or rearrange some live rock,,

I think Sailfins are great fish, and one would be quite happy and hardy in your 125 with your current stock list...I am sure you already know the keys to keeping tangs happy and healthy are proper nutrition, excellent water conditions, and ample room to swim. Heatlvr has a great point about having very little light for a while when introduing him.

Personally, it is not my first choice of a tang for a 125. I am concerned, also, with your comment on "never having luck" with a yellow tang...can you elaborate?

It just seems that over the years the yellow tangs that i have had were ich magnets. It has been the hardest fish for me to keep. oph. what do you believe would be the best tang for my tank. i.e. nice looking, hardy, and fun to watch.

i had one when i first started 5 years ago or so then he got big fast so i to catch him and trade him in, if you have an 8 foot tank should be ok, i only had a 4 foot ,90 gallon, and that wasnt big enough after a short time

I hear that once you have ich, you will always have it in a dormant stage possibly in your tank. So perhaps all of your tangs may be doomed?

The reality is that if yellow tangs are getting stressed out and succumbing to ick, I would anticipate most others to do the same. You have to openly and honestly assess the status of your tank.
Do you QT these fish?
