Salifert vs Seachem

I'm looking to invest in some good testing materials. Now I know from searching that everyone seems all hyped about Salifert supplies, but I guess what I'm wondering is how does Seachem compare to them? Are they close but Salifert just has a bit of an edge? Or is there no comparison and if I want accuracy I have to track down Salifert supplies? (I ask because the LFS don't carry that brand, just seem to carry SeaChem & Kent). I'll do what I need to do to get accuracy, but if they're very comparable with Salifert just having a better rep or something, I might go with what I can buy locally. If not, then I guess I'll be finding a place to buy Salifert supplies... :notsure:

I have both Seachem and Sailfert. Although the Sailfert is a bit more expensive it is way better and worth it imo.
Oh, and no tracking down the sailfert test kits since this site sells them

Heh, yeah I noticed that after I posted.

Btw, anyone who knows:
"dry goods" like test kits, are those subject to the minimum order, fuel charges, and handling fee the livestock incurs?

That's a good question. I'm not sure. I have always ordered live and dry goods and can't remember the rule. Anyone else know the answer?

Personally I can not justify spending the extra $$$ on all salifert kits. I use CAal and Alk kits made by salifert as they are easier to use and pretty simple and accurate. All others is Seachems Fastest or Seatest kits since they provide sufficient results that are more than inline with whats needed. Besides I rarely ever use ammonia, PH Nitrate or NItrite tets anyhow.....
Seachem is more than adequate for hobby needs.

That's what I was wondering... If Seachem is good enough to keep my little friends happy and healthy while Salifert might provide 'lab quality' results, but is just extra $ that could be better spent on lighting or rock etc.... :notsure:

Look at it likew this. There is probbaly more foks using the cheapest kits they can find and keeping their fish perfectly well. If those kits were junk or not close enough for hobby use then the world would be full of T'd off folks killing their fish with inferior test kits. I htink most ofks tend to get too carried away and paranoid with somethings such as test kits, but its their money and not my business how they spend it. I just do not see a need nor do most others see a need for Salifert ovder even tetra or red sea kits.
