Salinity question??

What, if anything would cause your salinity to drop in 24 hours. I was at 1.023 yesterday and today 1.020? Admittedly I'm using a swing arm hydrometer, but I'm real careful on the bubble thing. Also, what is the best salinity for inverts such as hermits? Are they pretty tolerable to swings?
Thanks in advance gang.

I'm pretty sure you want around 1.024 for inverts. Sorry I can't help you with your first question though.

Its probably a false reading from your hydrometer. I used a hydrometer for about 7 months and it always read 1.024. I bought a refractometer and the sg was 1.029. Room temperature can also be a factor in your readings. And inverts do better in a higher sg. 1.024-1.025 is ideal.

I thought you should have sg of 1.026 for inverts.

Ive always been told that 1.024-1.025 is ideal for inverts and 1.021-1.023 is ideal for fish-only tanks.
