Salinity

Can not seem to get my salinity down :scared: Keep adding water about daily with evap (non saline H2O), and salinity stays at 1.030!! How can I correct this? Thanks, Deb

how are you testing?

why do you want to lower the specific gravity? If you do take out a cup of saltwater and add fresh ro water. do this daily until level is where you want it.

top off water will not lower your your salt levels you actually have to remove salt water. Don't do too much at one time if you have fish.

just to clarify: 1.030 is your specific gravity not your salinity
if your salinity was only 1 your tank would be pretty much a freshwater tank.
its a really common mistake.
just remove some tank water and add more fresh in small increments untill you get your SG down to about 1.025 (my tank runs at 1.027 at all times) 1.030 isnt going to kill everything but you are at the upper tolerances and need to bring it down.

So, I have to take water out of the tank and replace it, not just replace the evap. water!! Thanks so much, and I will do it slowly.
