Sally Lightfoot Crab Problem

Looking on the website it said they were reef safe, so i went to the LFS and ask the fish guy he said it was safe too...
Well i got one along with two Emeral Crabs, the Emeral Crabs are no where to be seen, but the Sally Light Foot crab is very active!
Now the only problem with the Sally Lightfoot Crab, that it keep chasing my fish! I think it killed one of my "baby" Green Chromis.

They ARE CRABS and do HAVE CLAWS, and you CAN get an agressive one that will have no problem trying to ambush a smaller fish

Sally's are an interesting crab. While many people have these crabs and have great success with them... there are several who have problems with them too. As they get bigger some seem to enjoy the taste of some corals.
No matter who says something is reef safe, or peaceful, there's always a renegade in every bunch.
You could get another sally and never have a problem with him. I prefer to not mess with them, especially in a smaller tank.

You'll never catch them, they are notoriously lightning quick! But good luck.

The guy at my LFS said they are fine one minute and then they turn into fish-killing jerks. He said to avoid them.

I have one and I haven't had any problems with it. I've had it since Christmas and he has molted twice.
If you are trying to catch it, I do have a suggestion. Mine really likes freeze dried krill. I will sometimes put a piece of krill in on a stick and feed it to him. I will also put some krill on the ground and he goes crazy for it.
You could try to lure him into a bag or trap with a piece of shrimp or something similar. That might work.

After a couple days it seem like the crab is ignoring the shrimpgoby that i put in the tank... I guess it should be fine now, one big question when i add corals will these crabs hurt the corals?
Also if I add a cleaner shrimp will these crab try to eat it?

Bottom line a sally lightfoot crab is fine when it is very small and is reef safe.when they get bigger they will catch fish and inverts unless you have a huge tank where everybody has its own space. They are reef safe in 300 plus gallons. I am not sure, but i did stay at a holliday inn last night. I did read that in many books and my lfs guy confirmed.

Yea im going to try to remove this guy if i can catch him. He's in a Bio Cube 29g, and he seem to be the king of the tank right now.

as a sally lightfoot matures, especially the male they become more aggressive. Thier claws and body get more bulky as they age. They will kill fish and corals if not fed enough. I made the same mistake of buying a sally lightfoot for my 30 gallon, and he is starting to cause problems. I got the info above from a book and the info from the book seems to be coming true.

Got that crab out, but now i feel sad that i have to return him =( ...
Now the only thing i have to worry in the long run is the Emerald crab, heard horror stories about them and corals.
