if you do this a word of caution dont let the hardened salt land on corals if you have any and make sure there are no contaminants that might have gotten on the salt. I prefer not to push it back in the tank some do some dont.
but there is a reason its getting there though I would check your filters and stuff for excessive splashing or micro bubbles coming to the syrface and popping causeing a little bit of spray to build up.

Yep you're right, my fault. Couldn't the salt harm the fish also if it is just pushed back in and not premixed again?

I scrape build up salt out and carefully remove it with a paper towel.
I don't like to push dry salt back in the tank, cuz that will raise your SG and like you said, it might be contaminated.

HOB skimmers seem to always give me salt creep on the lip of the tank. I agree with Mike, don't put it back into your tank....remove it and throw it in the trash. You shouldn't be seeing a ton of salt building up and that little amount really isn't going to effect your tank (SG). But as a rule, always test your SG anyways just to be sure.

I don't have any creep so I haven't had to push it back but if it ever does I will. I don't use contaminates around the tank (like glass cleaners). I just use RO water for cleaning everything. I just read about what to do with the salt creep in the book "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" and it said to just push it back in. I would be careful not to let it get on corals though.
